With the release of the Loves Me EP, Packing manages to blend indie and prog-rock with a slew of other elements that bring it all to life, but it's the character the songs showcase that gets you attached.
Loves me is our first batch of songs we’ve collected over the span of a decade, but more so recent additions- gotta keep it fresh, evolve the sound and styles. I think Loves Me became a concept that helped us curate this overarching theme that dives into the concept of Love from all sorts of aspects in life. They’re personal experience songs, I feel like a lot of these songs don’t generalize a whole lot, so they’re not extremely relatable but they’re poetic in that sense. The album kinda becomes an external perspective of our inner reflections'" explains the band of their record.
Packing are an indie rock band from the Greater Toronto Area in Canada. With roots in punk rock, progressive rock, and Midwest emo, they draw inspiration from a wide variety of artists, including Mom Jeans, Modern Baseball, Fall Out Boy, Coheed and Cambria, John Mayer, Rex Orange County, and Origami Angel. Their sound has most often been compared to Coheed and Cambria and Hot Mulligan. This range of influences is reflected throughout the EP, which spans math rock, Midwest emo, Latin rock, bossa nova, hardcore, indie pop, country and folk, R&B and soul, blues rock, and electronic music. The electronic element comes mainly from a remix of one of their tracks by their friend, electronic artist ReSeT Ryan Tram.
The band has a playful, lighthearted personality and enjoys having fun with its music. At its first live show, held during an indie night, the group performed a mashup of the 6teen and Beyblade theme songs. During a recent interview on Radio Waterloo 102.7 CKMS, the members could not stop making jokes about their band name.
Despite their playful attitude, they take their music seriously and allow the quality of their performances, compositions, lyrics, and production to speak for itself. Their songs explore personal experiences, most often focusing on love and relationships - whether with themselves, their families, their friends, their romantic interests, or their partners.
Loves Me is available on most major streaming platforms along with Bandcamp for download, and the band is available for interviews upon request.
