With the release of the Club Matrix EP, Laklan delivers a fresh blend of electronic and pop riddled with character and a blend of flavorful beats and synths along with addictive vocals.
"The topics of these songs surprised me. I would make the track first and once I had that complete, I would listen to it over and over again and let it tell me what I should write about. Sometimes I had a concept in mind that I wanted to portray and writing to that concept was a fun journey. Once I was in that mindset the songs didn’t take long to write. When I finished the songs, I noticed they all had an underlying theme in common and that was acknowledging the messy parts of myself that I allow and owning that. I think we all give into something that’s not the healthiest for us and most of us deny that. But I think when you unapologetically own it, that is freeing in a way," explains Laklan of his release.
Hailing from Chicago, Laklan is an emerging artist, songwriter, and producer. A graduate of Belmont University’s prestigious songwriting program in Nashville, he honed his craft under the mentorship of some of the industry’s finest. Although he began writing songs at an early age, it was during his time at Belmont that his passion for production flourished, allowing him to explore his knack for crafting infectious club beats and magnetic pop melodies.
After previously collaborating with other vocalists to bring his songs to life, Laklan is now stepping into his own power — finding his voice and delivering his own vocals on tracks that reflect his evolving artistry. Offering provocative pop songs that ignite the club scene, Laklan blends bold, sensual lyrics with cinematic soundscapes that transport listeners into a vivid world of pulsing beats and striking imagery.
"This EP is about giving in without giving up. It's about surrendering to your flaws, fire and truth. These songs are about owning what used to control you and embracing your inner voice,” he says.
With CLUB MATRIX, Laklan not only introduces his distinctive voice to the underground pop world but also signals his ambition to collaborate with other artists and secure a publishing deal, contributing his unique style to the broader music industry.
