With the release of "The Beautiful People", Gillsaw brings his own, heavy-handed flavor to a track that changed a generation.
"When "The Beautiful People" came out almost 30 years ago, I was instantly intrigued by its sound and visuals. Marilyn Manson felt incredibly unique then, taking things a step beyond even what Nine Inch Nails was doing. Around that same time, I stumbled upon the 1932 movie Freaks, and its unforgettable dinner scene just blew me away. For whatever reason, those two things became linked in my head – hearing the song always brought Freaks to mind. That's exactly why I decided to weave them together for my cover's video and artwork. Musically, I really wanted to honour the original track but give it a heavy Gillsaw sound spin, making it feel fresh and different while staying true to its core," says the artist of his cover.
After years of drumming in a number of bands, Jole Gills felt a need to explore sound on a deeper level. desire to experiment, to break free from traditional structures, ultimately led to the birth of Gillsaw.
Although Gills had been a drummer, he ventured into sounds and writing that were unorthodox and put down the confines of the standard by creating and experimenting with aspects of metal and heavy industrial music far beyond percussion or rhythm.
The result has been a sonically driving and outside-the-box experience.
"From the beginning, Gillsaw has been about defying musical conventions. My goal is to create a sound that evokes unease, a sense of haunting and unsettling emotions. This emotional resonance is crucial for the music's message to land. Initially, my vocals were hesitant, but I've since embraced a raw, harsher approach. I also heavily utilize vocal layering to enhance the atmospheric and haunted quality of the sound. The evolution has been about pushing boundaries and becoming more confident in creating a truly unique and impactful sonic landscape," says the artist about the project.
