With the release of the Paint album, Apres Pompeii blurs the lines between pop, dance, indie, funk, and so much more, all with a vibrant and character-riddled approach.
"Paint is an album I’ve been dreaming about making for over ten years. I initially conceived of it as a companion piece to my second LP, Lead—where that album is organic and internal and lives in the mind, I wanted Paint to be the opposite, a little artificial, sensual, and body-bound. I’ve been living in a more acoustic, singer-songwriter realm for years and while I love that type of music it is only a small sliver of my personal taste and I really wanted to try to make something that I would be excited to listen to. I was feeling the itch to push my boundaries a little, really stretch my abilities as a producer and songwriter and decided to finally make the thing of my dreams," explains the artist.
Chicago-based singer-songwriter and producer, Apres Pompeii, has released their latest full-length album, Paint, available wherever music is sold and at aprespompeii.net.
Paint is preceded by singles “BREAKER,” a jolt of electric longing, and “ROOTS,” an ode to queer identity and history.
“I wanted the album to feel dark, fun, moody, and sweaty–I wanted to make something that felt like a night out in the middle of summer,” says Apres Pompeii.
The resulting album teems with life. “Thirteen tracks merge into a unified sonic performance where passion sits alongside tenderness, and refined pop melodies meet the raw, almost physical energy of a dance beat. ‘PAINT’ is meticulously thought out yet delivered with such artistic sweep that it feels as though everything is being created right now, in sync with the body’s movements,” writes Anita Floa for Indie Boulevard.
Paint is Apres Pompeii’s fourth full-length record and though it is a sonic departure from the indie folk of the previous work, the strong storytelling, poetic imagery, and conceptual adventurousness that were hallmarks of 2021’s Clay and 2016’s Lead are ever-present.
Paint is available on all major outlets for streaming or download and Apres Pompeii is available for interviews upon request.
