With the release of the full length Stories by the Lake album, Voices Below breathes new life into a few classic genres to breed a sound all their own. Lush with haunting progressions, a balanced mix of natural and digital instrumentation, and a dark undertone brooding beneath the surface, the record boasts the aesthetic of alternative rock anthems.

The first single, “Same As You", immediately grabs you with it's infectious groove, followed immediately by guitar hooks and increasingly intense vocals building along with the rest of the track.

"'The lyrics for It's Sad Enough allude to the fact that people have all sorts of beliefs and opinions, even when those beliefs and opinions are limiting or don't have a solid foundation in reality.  And I think that the evolution of one's own consciousness can be inhibited by these beliefs. So people are "clinging on to one thing" or another and from my perspective, this is what causes people to disagree with each other.  This kind of discord among people causes all kinds of problems in the world, when it's already "sad enough" as it is without us causing more pain and suffering than there already is. There are problems which people can obviously see, yet they still hang on to their own rigid view points - especially certain (but not all) politicians who only care about power and money, as well as the followers that support them. The song is an attempt to break down those beliefs so "there's nothing left to believe" in - just us as humans and all that we can accomplish and explore together if we stop all the petty squabbling as a species.  Of course there is also a personal and even romantic underlying message.  When I say "too bad they'll never know me like you do", I'm talking about my own isolation, and that there's only a few intimate allies that really know me well enough so that the bond breaks down the metaphorical walls between us. ." explains songwriter Mike Goldberg of the single.

"'The underlying theme has to do with staying true to who you are,  who you love, and what you’re passionate about in life, despite external pressures from family, friends, or politicians who often want you to think or live a certain way that isn’t in line with what you want out of life. So the title brings it together, like I’m saying 'I can relate to you.' Although I do think that most people are trying to do their best, even if what they want for you isn’t what’s best for you." explains songwriter Mike Goldberg of the single.

Although the single speaks volumes for the album, to get a real understanding of where Voices Below is coming from, it should be heard in its entirety.

"This album allowed me to exercise my vocals techniques and range more than I’ve been able to do in the past.  I’ve also explored new methods of sound designing by experimenting with MIDI instruments, including percussion and synths, while finding ways to incorporate them with analog instruments like guitar, bass, and piano. For the emotional aspect of the album, I think the music has a cohesive sort of dark yet comforting vibe that I’ve always wanted to create and which plays an ever present part in the evolution of my sound.  " says Goldberg of creating the album.

Being involved with plenty of musical projects through the years, songwriter Mike Goldberg has always had a love for  writing and recording. As much as he enjoyed the process, he never really felt  the need to utilize his vocals until Voices Below. Setting out to create something he  hadn't quite done before was a long awaited decision. Writing, recording and performing almost  everything himself, Goldberg used the record as way to express emotions and truths about who he is. At the end of his whole hearted effort, the Stories by the Lake album was born. The release is a testament to where he is at with his sound right now.

Stories by the Lake is available now for streaming and downloads on most major digital outlets and the artist is always working on new material for upcoming releases.
