With the release of the Ticks EP, Sugar Lunch takes a fresh approach to genre clashing to give the record a
life all its own. Lush with addictive progressions and acoustic grunge overtones, the record boasts the
aesthetic of alternative rock anthems.

The first single, “Luv”, immediately grabs you with its infectious pop sensibility, followed by its building
arrangement allowing to build and breathe as it plays on.

“’Luv’ is about that feeling of love you have in a first early high school relationship. It’s not really love I
guess, but it’s a really overwhelming feeling and everything that comes with that. I don’t know if it’s the same for everyone, but it was flooring for me, kind of like a temper tantrum when you’re little. You’re so angry you can’t think of anything else.” explains songwriter Richard Miller of his single.

Although the single speaks volumes for the EP, to get a real understanding of where Sugar Lunch is coming from, it should be heard in its entirety.

“The whole album is written through the perspective of one person. First relationships, the sneaky rebellious feeling of trying drugs for the first few times, being self-conscious and uncomfortable and  figuring stuff out. With this record, I was basically able to do more of what I’ve been wanting to do. I’ve gotten better at the whole process, and I don’t have to make compromises because I don’t know how to do something. I’m better at making things catchier for me, stuff that gets me more excited. I love short songs that get stuck in your head so hard they make you want to listen 30 times in a row.” says Miller of creating
the record.

Songwriter Richard “Dicky” Miller picked up a guitar a few years ago and quickly became fixated. Finding himself playing all night without realizing it at all, he pushed himself to get good enough to actually write songs. Writing scratch tracks with a microphone and a pair of earbuds, Miller engulfed himself in songwriting. Moving to Washington D.C. after spending a few years in Spain, the artist finally got himself equipment and taught himself to record songs on his own. Performing, writing, and recording everything himself, the Ticks EP was finally born.

Ticks is available now for streaming and downloads on most major digital outlets and the artist is always working on new material for upcoming releases.
