With the release of the full length First Light In The Uncanny Valley album, Modern Water takes the best parts of some classic genres to give the record a life all its own. Lush with addictive progressions and vintage pop overtones, the record boasts the aesthetic of indie rock anthems.

The first single, “Lamp Light", immediately grabs you with its infectious chamber pop groove, followed by its emotionally driven vocal approach and its ability to breathe as it plays on.

"The name is created from the memory of a woman turning on a lamp in an apartment while I was laying on a couch. It was the first song we tackled as an actual purposeful recording project, so it just felt right." explains the band of their single.

Although the single speaks volumes for the album, to get a real understanding of where Modern Water is coming from it should be heard in its entirety.

"When we started this project (without really knowing that it *was* a project at first), we were by no means inexperienced, but with making this record I think a major part was the fact that we learned to strip away expectations. For some reason, almost immediately it seemed we were able to ignore or bypass that self-doubt and anxiety (you get when first creating music with another person) when we played together. This opened up the possibilities for what type of music we could make" says the band of creating the record.

Modern Water is the brain child of two good friends who shared an immediate bond and personal enthusiasm for music. Having been actively playing in local bands both together and separately, Jesse Kennedy and Arlen Brown decided to create something different. Their approach came to be by way of setting up a few microphones in their basement studio and beginning to record what they would later call "layer jams". With each of them playing a different instrument, they would record a "layer" of improvised music and then immediately play along to it with different instruments to add the next layer on top, without first listening back to what they'd just recorded. This allowed the duo to preserve a sense of improvisation even for subsequent layers, leaving room for a certain freedom. They would later choose sections to work on further. These sections would develop into the songs on the new record.

Creating "layer jams" and churning out songs since 2013, Modern Water was its own animal from the start. First Light In The Uncanny Valley is a testament to what they do, and to their sound right now.
