Maria Lane has just dropped her latest single from her upcoming debut album, showcasing the album's diverse set of infused soundscapes.
"Lost" is a deeply personal song I've been holding onto for a while, waiting for the right project to include it in. This upcoming album felt like the perfect narrative fit. I wrote "Lost" two years ago during a time of significant conflict in my life.
When creating this song, I envisioned being lost in a forest with my partner, unable to find each other because we were so far apart. I aimed to encapsulate that feeling of being lost and isolated, both physically and emotionally. The song's mood and lyrics reflect the journey from being blissfully lost in love to feeling lost within the relationship.
The violin and guitar really sell it sonically and help create that feeling of being lost. They weave together to evoke the emotions and atmosphere I intended, adding layers of depth and intensity to the song," explains Maria of her single.
Maria Lane has had music as her safe space since she was just a young child as she recalls sitting in front of a piano making up songs and putting on pretend concerts for herself.
As she got older, music became more and more a part of who she was. It became a way for her to settle her emotions and she learned to use to emotions to tell a story.
It wasn't long before Maria started writing songs and sharing them on Soundcloud. The feeling of taking something cathartic, that meant so much to her, and releasing it into the world felt liberating.
Releasing her first single "strangers again" was a pivotal moment for her as an artist and she hasn't stopped since.
Releasing 7 singles and 2 EP's since then, Maria has found her footing with songwriting, recording, and being able to express herself through her music.
"Since 2021, I've discovered so much about myself as a singer/songwriter and artist. My confidence in both my writing and vocal abilities has grown significantly. I’m now more willing to take risks and less concerned with external opinions. I've started writing heavier, more narrative-driven songs. Early on, I struggled to finish songs, but now, having written over a hundred, the process feels much smoother thanks to consistent practice. My sound has also evolved, showcasing my vocal versatility. Performing live for the first-time last year and being featured on The Fader were major milestones. These experiences reinforced that I’m on the right path and that my music resonates with people," says Maria of how she has evolved as an artist.
"Lost" serves as a testament to where she is at with her sound right now and the single will be part of an upcoming 10-track album release.
