With the release of the Newborn Fossil EP, Marcus: The Apex Predator! deliver a soiree of rock tonality that expands into progressive, pop-punk, and alt-rock all while keeping to a high energy and addictive approach.

The 5-track EP spans a series of heavy rock approaches and pulls it all together with inventive guitar work and an energy that comes through infectious and bold.

The record has several singles that stand out, including "Lo-Fi", which not only showcases the progressive and fierce side of the band's music, but also the lyrical catchiness and descriptions given throughout the record's playthrough.

Although the single speaks volumes for the EP, to get a full understanding of where the band is coming from, this release should be heard in its entirety.

A powerful release, Newborn Fossil serves as a nod to the band's past, as well as a testament to where they are at with their sound right now.

Marcus: the Apex Predator! is a Detroit-based indie/post-hardcore outfit. Formed in 2015 by Kevin Watts (guitars, vocals, songwriter) with his Float Here Forever bandmate, Nick Marko (drums and percussion).

M:tAP! pride themselves in representing their hometown Detroit roots by existing in the in-between—finding a niche betwixt the melodic and the aggressive, the thoughtful and the fun, and the big, angular riffs that still manage to sweet-talk their way into your ear.

M:tAP! recorded its debut, “The Fury of Almost,” in 2018, with Darrell Bazian of Float Here Forever engineering, mixing, and mastering the record. Rock the Pigeon.com declared M:tAP’s single “What Say You?” to be “[The best modern post-hardcore has to offer. … This is truly one of the best bands we’ve reviewed in a long time.” The Sonic Blender named it to its Best of 2018 List. And Claire Lim of Wee Claire.com called it “brilliantly emotive alternative rock … This is bloody fantastic!”

After a hiatus for life, work, COVID, and a Float Here Forever record, Watts and Marko recruited Sean Bondareff (Kind Beast) to record a follow-up: 2025’s EP, “Newborn Fossil.”  The tracks were recorded and mixed by Jake Shives and mastered by Grammy-winning Detroit legend, Dave Feeny at Tempermill Studios in Ferndale, Michigan.

Early returns speak for themselves. Alt77.com hails it as “a great, modern record.” Mystic Sons.com says, “'Newborn Fossil' shows they are still very much on top of their creative game.” Return of Rock.com calls it “a blistering return … brims with intensity, emotion, and sheer force.” A Song in Life calls it “a thunderous brio.”

Marcus: the Apex Predator! will continue to bring the beats, the drive, the volume, the loss, and the gain in 2025 and beyond. Newborn Fossil is available everywhere.
