“Why Can’t We?” is a compelling track that delves into the themes of unity, empathy and the shared human experience posing the question “Why can’t we just be friends?”
Through a blend of vocal characters and cacophony of lyrical viewpoints, Distant Emperor explores why, despite our differences, we often fail to connect on a fundamental level. The song acts as a call to action, encouraging listeners to reflect on our collective humanity and the potential for unity.
Distant Emperor shared, “This song was born out of the need to address the disconnection and breakdown of public discourse witnessed every day on social media. It’s about breaking down walls particularly on the individual level. "
Distant Emperor began in 2021 during Covid lockdowns when songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Marc Di Camillo started crafting his own material. Attempting to maintain a band during the pandemic proved challenging, so Marc turned his home studio into a creative sanctuary.
Over time, the songs took shape, but he realized something was missing — vocals. After a long search he found Aliz AJ whose powerful voice became the centerpiece of the music.
Their journey began with the release of the first single, "Strange," in January 2023, and they haven’t looked back since.
Following this the *Generation Salvation* album was released, showcasing a diverse yet cohesive sound.
Now, “Why Can’t We?” offers a next glimpse into their upcoming EP release.
“When you listen to *Generation Salvation*, you’ll hear a variety of styles unified by a distinct sound,” says Marc.
The new EP continues this tradition, featuring four songs that are varied yet undeniably Distant Emperor.
“Why Can’t We?” follows their previously released "Fourth Pillar" which are both available on all major streaming and download platforms as the band gears up to release even more music.
