Playing and writing music from the age of only 14 multi-instrumentalist Chad Johnson draws his influences from a variety of places but none quite as strong as video games. With a love for Sega game soundtracks, Johnson developed a knack for writing and recording original songs and as his musical venture grew, so did is choice of instruments.

Performing everything from drum programming to guitars, bass, and keys, the songwriter quickly found his creative outlet and hasn't let go since. Bringing in guest vocalists and collaborators for different songs, Johnson mixes everything on Logic Pro X and even creates his own videos using only his iPhone.

With the release of the Overcast EP, Chad Johnson takes on a some classic genres and gives them a fresh spin all his own. Lush with addicting progressions, an ambient vocal style, and persistent alternative undertones, the record boasts the aesthetic of indie pop anthems. Although songs are diverse from one another, there is a glue holds them all together much like a concept album would.

The first single, “Real", immediately grabs you with it's infectious pop sensibilities, followed by it's almost dream like feel.

"The name is significant in that it is the most autobiographical song I've ever written. The lyrics deal with coming to terms with who you really are and accepting the things that are no longer part of it. Distancing yourself or falling short of others expectations of you have always been things I struggled with and this song is a way of explaining those feelings, explains the songwriter of his single.

Although the single speaks volumes for the EP, to get a real understanding of where Chad is coming from, it should be heard in its entirety.

"This song and the album in particular are unique in that they don't fall into the jazz/fusion/funk trends of my other work. This project is more introverted and somber by comparison while keeping some of the jazz influences. I wanted to make an album that conveys the feeling of never ending rain without making it too sad or negative. It's unique in that it's more of a concept album", says Johnson of the songwriting for the record.
